Program overview

CARE Kenya has been contracted by WFP as a cooperating partner to distribute in-kind food assistance in Hagadera and Ifo 2 food distribution points (FDPs). CARE Kenya plans, prepositions, and conducts monthly in-kind food distributions, including post-distribution surveys to assess satisfaction, challenges, and distribution effectiveness.

In 2025, the Differentiated Assistance (DA) framework — developed by the Department of Refugee Services, WFP, UNHCR, and partners — divided refugees in Dadaab into four categories. From August 2025, WFP implemented prioritized General Food Distributions for Category 1 (vulnerable households) and Category 2 (limited potential to meet basic needs) only.

Objective

Under the Kenya Country Strategic Plan (CSP) KE02 activity 1 WFP seeks to provide food assistance & nutrient-rich commodities to refugees, including nutrition messaging & counselling & support to self-reliance activities in the camps & settlement areas.
