Overview
BORESHA is a 3 year cross-border EU funded project that is implemented by a consortium led by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), CARE, WYG and World Vision as the other consortium members.
The overall objective is to promote economic development and greater resilience, particularly among vulnerable groups.
Through BORESHA project in the Mandera triangle (Kenya, Ethiopia and Somali) and in support of successful participatory rangeland management, CARE is facilitating partnerships between government service institutions and community resource management groups and strengthening the capacity of community leadership.
By facilitating inclusive land use planning, policy and practice, the project aims at enhancing community resilience and alternative livelihoods.
BORESHA supports:
- Strengthen cross-communities’ capacities to identify their own priorities, plan and advocate for measures to help them withstand shocks
- Promote the development of inclusive cross-border environment for livestock and non-livestock trade and business, and foster private sector opportunities for women and young people
- Support the equitable and conflict sensitive management of natural resources in the cross-border area
The aim is for communities to become more resilient and self-reliant; individuals, including women and young men, will have the skills and opportunity take up a more diverse range of employment and livelihoods options; natural resources will be used more rationally, and with less conflict; local governments will be more accountable to their constituencies; and fewer people will be displaced within, or migrate out from, the cross-border region.
