Food and Nutrition Security

Strengthening Food Systems and Nutrition Outcomes.

CARE Kenya intends to support at least 5.5 million people in Kenya (at least 55% women), to produce more healthy food, have better access to water and sanitation, and improve nutrition.

We work with communities to enhance their food and nutrition security and resilience and adaptation to climate change through various multi-pronged approaches including food security and economic development, water for multiple uses, disaster risk reduction, community based climate change adaptation and agricultural value chains making the markets work for the poor.

About CARE’s food and nutrition security work

CARE will focus efforts on innovative pathways that progress women in the formal and informal agriculture sectors toward market-based, commercially led, and enterprising business growth for local, national and even international markets, all delivered with a strong climate, gender, and technology lens.

CARE’s goal will be achieved by building the agency of food and water insecure women and girls, changing inequitable power relations, and supporting the transformation of structures that sustain inequality and discrimination.

CARE’s work in food and water systems is based on integrated 8-pathways of change, that adheres to the principles of sustainability, productivity, equity, and resilience which aim to address the needs of today’s world, and future generations.
